Hangar_BHX_2013.10.29-4BMonarch Aircraft Engineering have announced that their brand new aircraft maintenance hangar will provide 150 jobs to the Birmingham area.

Officially opened today, the state-of-the-art facility will complement Monarch’s existing engineering operations based nationwide from London Gatwick to Manchester Airport and provide 150 engineering jobs.

The hangar is able to comfortably accommodate almost every aircraft type in current production, and is the first ever to boast the capacity for Boeing 787 Dreamliner maintenance. With space and facilities to maintain other wide body aircrafts like the Boeing 777, 747 and Airbus A350, it’s spacious enough to take two Boeing 777-300ER planes, or 10 narrow-body aircraft with a number of component-repair and back shops.

To offer this much space, the hangar itself is by no means in modest proportions. Covering 2.5 acres it is actually big enough to hold four football pitches within it’s boundaries. Put another way, this building could house 450 Routemaster double decker buses.

Seven types of aircraft are already scheduled for maintenence within the facility, including Airbus A300, A320 and A321, Boeing 757 and 767, Embraer 195  and Bombardier Q400.

Monarch Aircraft Engineering are hoping to use the hangar to continue their world-class apprenticeship scheme, creating jobs and training for the future of British engineering.
